Welcome & Bienvenidos!

We are proud to announce that the 7th annual Laredo Birding Festival will take place on February 6 - 9, 2019!!

Blessed with a rich and diverse river ecosystem, Laredo is home to hundreds of species of local and migratory birds. Our prized birds include: Morelet's Seedeater formerly known as the White-collared Seedeater, Scaled Quail, Gray Hawk, Audubon’s and Altamira orioles, Green Parakeets, Muscovy Duck, Red-billed Pigeon and Clay-colored Thrush, among many others.

Each day, birders will have a chance to select from a variety of full-day scenic trips. Escorted by professional field guides and members of our local Monte Mucho Audubon Society, birders will have an opportunity to deepen their birding knowledge of South Texas, and explore areas along Laredo’s river front, creek systems, nature trails and private ranch land.

7th annual Partnership
The Rio Grande International Study Center is incredibly honored to coordinate and host the 2019 Laredo Birding Festival with partners - Monte Mucho Audubon Society (MMAS) and the Laredo Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).

RGISC is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that was established in Laredo in 1994. Our mission is to preserve and protect our only source of drinking water - the Rio Grande-Rio Bravo - and its green spaces through research, education, advocacy, public awareness campaigns and binational stewardship and alliances.

A major collaborator in the Festival is the Monte Mucho Audubon Society. MMAS is the only bird-watching group in Laredo. The group was established to promote conservation and preservation of a healthy habitat in the South Texas Region, to encourage the appreciation of birds and other wildlife, and to provide educational programs to garner public support on environmental issues. See what they have been up to at their Meet Up site, or Facebook page, and view their photo albums of activity.

In 2013, RGISC entered into a partnership with the Monte Mucho Audubon Society & the City of Laredo’s Convention and Visitors Bureau to organize a young and growing annual birding festival. The Festival is designed to take birders from Laredo, Texas, the United States and Canada on small, guided field trips to private ranches and public birding hot spots. Birders have the opportunity to observe and enjoy an incredible diversity of birds with professional field guides, and to learn more about these avian creatures through a series of enlightening evening presentations.
